As Diabetes Care and Education Specialists, we are expected to have expertise in diabetes technologies to improve person-centered care and optimize outcomes.
This Technology Toolkit course, taught by Diana Isaacs, PharmD, BCPS, BC-ADM, BCACP, CDCES, ADCES—2020 AADE Diabetes Educator of the Year—features in-depth training on insulin therapy as the ultimate hormone replacement treatment. Dr. Isaacs reviews the types of insulin, essential teaching points, and practical formulas for determining insulin needs for carbohydrates and hyperglycemia. She demonstrates insulin delivery devices—from pens to pumps—and shows how to use glucose results to evaluate and adjust therapy.
The course also provides a comprehensive update on the latest diabetes technology, with a focus on real-world problem-solving. Dr. Isaacs walks learners through interpreting glucose reports, including the ambulatory glucose profile, and applying insights to reach individualized glucose targets. From meters to CGM to insulin pumps, learners will gain confidence in integrating technology into care and using data to make informed clinical decisions that support long-term success.
